NZ Māori Hockey Kaunihera (Committee) have come to a decision on the 30th Annual NZ Māori Hockey Tournament, which was to be hosted by Te Waipounamu Māori Hockey and held in Nelson over Labour Weekend 22nd to 25th October 2021. After weighing up all the current information relating to the “Delta COVID Outbreak” within New Zealand at this time, including the uncertainty of when Auckland will be in Level 2 or Level 1, the Kaunihera (Committee) discussed at great length and decided that postponing the tournament was the most appropriate safe decision for all involved.
Therefore the 30th Annual NZ Māori Hockey Tournament will be POSTPONED until next year and hosted by Te Waipounamu Māori Hockey in Nelson during Labour Weekend 21st to 24th October 2022.
Like the many other organisations around New Zealand, who have rescheduled, postponed, or cancelled events in the last 2 weeks, it became apparent that tangata whenua’s health and well being, the whanaungatanga of the tournament itself, and staying within the NZ Government guidelines relating to events held in the various levels of COVID, were at the forefront of our decision.
For all people involved in the tournament with accommodation and travel bookings, NZ Māori Hockey are happy to assist you where we can, in obtaining refunds or credits where needed. We will be putting up a FAQ on the Tournament page shortly.
For those who purchased Tournament Apparel we will be contacting you regarding postage and delivery of your apparel.
